Digital devices and e-readers haven’t eliminated the demand for physical books, with research revealing a host of benefits of reading from the printed page. As such the Archhive-Books' Portable Reading Rooms architecture competition is seeking designs for a small architectural structure that could be embedded within existing public spaces in multiple locations around the world. These Reading Rooms would function as an intimate meditative space in which people can read and exchange books, and encourage reading in visitors of all ages.
Participants have total creative freedom when conceptualising the design and functioning of the Reading Rooms, in fact, they need not even be a physical room, as long as they are a welcoming and nourishing environment that encourages reading.
The Archhive-Books' Portable Reading Rooms architecture competition is open now until October 18. For more information visit readingrooms.beebreeders.com.
